We are seeking a visionary Qualified IT Teacher to join our partner SEN School in Ipswich. This role is designed for a Teacher who understands that for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), IT can be a life-changing gateway to communication and the modern world. You will be teaching a range of students with needs including Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and physical disabilities.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Bespoke Curriculum Design: Adapt the Computing and IT curriculum into "small-steps" learning, focusing on functional skills, digital safety, and creative media.
- Assistive Technology Integration: Guide students in using specialised hardware and software (such as EyeGaze, switches, or voice-to-text) to overcome barriers to learning.
- Digital Citizenship: Teach vital online safety and social media awareness, helping students navigate the internet securely and responsibly.
- Creative Projects: Lead engaging sessions in digital photography, basic coding, or game design, allowing students to express their creativity through technology.
- EHCP Progress Tracking: Monitor and record student milestones in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, celebrating every breakthrough.
- Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Collaborate with Speech and Language Therapists and TAs to ensure technology is being used effectively to support communication across the school.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced SEN teachers or mainstream IT teachers with a strong passion for inclusion.
- Technical Adaptability: A solid understanding of the IT curriculum and a willingness to learn and implement various Assistive Technology (AT) solutions.
- Patience & Creativity: The ability to pivot your lesson plan in the moment to meet the sensory or emotional needs of your students.
- Resilient Leadership: A calm, co-regulating presence that can lead a classroom team and provide a safe environment for all learners.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
