Job Title: SEN Complex Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting for a specialist SEN school in Didsbury that supports students aged 3-16 with severe and complex needs. The students at this provision require substantial support with communication, mobility, and medical care. We need a Teaching Assistant with practical experience in SEN or health and social care to join the team immediately on a long-term basis.

Responsibilities
You will work 1:1 and in small groups to support the educational and physical needs of the pupils.
- Support students with complex needs (ASD, PMLD, and SLD) to access a specifically adapted curriculum.
- Work alongside teachers and external therapists to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide essential personal care, including toileting and feeding assistance, maintaining high standards of hygiene and dignity.
- Use manual handling equipment (hoists and slings) to assist students with limited mobility.
- Manage resources and equipment to ensure the classroom is safe and accessible.
- Monitor pupil progress and record data for teacher assessment.
- Supervise students during break times and lunch, ensuring their safety at all times.
Requirements
Candidates must have prior experience in a relevant setting to be considered.
- Minimum 6 months of work experience in the UK within an SEN school, residential care, or disability nursing setting.
- Practical experience supporting individuals with ASD, PMLD, or SLD.
- Experience working with children or young people with medical care needs is essential.
- Willingness and ability to carry out personal care duties.
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or Health and Social Care equivalent) is preferred.
- Right to work in the UK.
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
