Can you turn a Science experiment into a sensory discovery, or make History feel like a lived experience for students who see the world differently?
We are looking for a creative and resilient Qualified SEN Teacher to lead our Key Stage 3 classes (Years 7, 8, and 9) at our partner specialist school in Ipswich. Whether your passion lies in the wonders of the natural world (Science) or the stories of our society (Humanities), we need a subject specialist who can strip away the barriers of a traditional curriculum and replace them with engagement, curiosity, and success.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Subject Adaptation: Take core concepts in Science or Humanities and translate them into "small-step" learning objectives suitable for students with Autism (ASC), MLD, and SEMH needs.
- KS3 Transition Mastery: Support Year 7s as they settle into secondary life, and guide Year 9s as they begin to explore their future pathways and interests.
- Practical & Sensory Learning: Lead hands-on Science practicals or immersive Humanities projects that prioritise "doing" over "writing," ensuring accessibility for all literacy levels.
- Total Communication: Integrate Makaton, visual timetables, and assistive technology to ensure your subject matter is understood by every learner in the room.
- Behavioural Co-Regulation: Act as a steady, guiding presence, using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to help students navigate the social and emotional challenges of the early teenage years.
- Team Leadership: Manage and inspire a team of dedicated Teaching Assistants to provide high-impact 1:1 and small-group support during your lessons.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential. We welcome Secondary subject specialists or Primary teachers with a strong interest in Science or Humanities.
- Subject Passion: A genuine love for your specialist area and the creativity to make it relevant to students with complex learning needs.
- Middle-School Intuition: An understanding of the developmental needs of 11-14 year olds, balancing academic ambition with vital pastoral care.
- Resilience & Empathy: The ability to remain professional and supportive during challenging moments, always maintaining high expectations for student potential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently via Randstad).
