Ipswich
Do you have the professional patience to navigate complex behaviours and the creative spark to make the curriculum accessible to those who learn outside the box?
We are seeking a highly motivated Qualified SEN Teacher to join a dedicated specialist school in Ipswich. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to work within a community that champions neurodiversity. You will be leading a classroom of students with a variety of needs, including Autism (ASC), complex learning difficulties, and sensory processing differences. In this Ipswich-based role, you aren't just teaching a class; you are providing the tools for a more independent future.
Your Responsibilities
- Personalised Curriculum Design: Transition from rigid lesson plans to fluid, student-centred learning that priorities functional communication and emotional wellbeing.
- Communication Empowerment: Utilise a "Total Communication" approach, employing Makaton, PECS, and visual prompts to reduce frustration and increase engagement.
- Regulation & Environment: Maintain a low-arousal, highly structured classroom that utilises sensory breaks and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to keep students in a "ready to learn" state.
- Progress Tracking: Use "small-steps" assessment tools to evidence growth against Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, ensuring every milestone is recognised.
- Team Orchestration: Lead and empower a team of specialised Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to support individual student needs.
- Family & Clinical Liaison: Work as part of a wider circle of care, communicating regularly with parents and collaborating with Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT).
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory for the role. We value applications from experienced SEN specialists or mainstream teachers with a genuine calling for special education.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with evidence-based SEN strategies like Attention Autism, Sensory Stories, or the TEACCH framework.
- Emotional Grit: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating influence during times of student distress or challenging behaviour.
- A Champion's Mindset: A deep-seated belief that every student, regardless of their challenges, deserves a high-quality and dignified education.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
