A wonderful opportunity has opened for an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner SEN School in Ipswich. We are seeking a proactive and empathetic professional to support students with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, and moderate learning difficulties. In this role, you won't just be assisting in a classroom; you will be a mentor and a pillar of support for young people navigating their educational journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Support: Provide dedicated 1:1 or small group assistance, helping students stay focused and confident during their lessons.
- Collaborative Planning: Partner with the class teacher to prepare inclusive materials and adapt the learning environment to suit sensory needs.
- Nurturing Well-being: Support the emotional health of pupils by using positive reinforcement and gentle de-escalation techniques.
- Achievement Tracking: Contribute to the monitoring of student progress, ensuring all milestones are recorded against their EHCP goals.
- Independence Building: Promote daily life skills and social interaction, empowering students to gain greater autonomy.
- Team Synergy: Maintain a collaborative relationship with the school's therapeutic team to provide a holistic support system for every child.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in a setting that supports individuals with additional needs is highly advantageous.
- A resilient, "can-do" attitude and the ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with students, staff, and families.
- An understanding of SEN frameworks and a desire to implement specialized learning strategies.
- Relevant certifications (such as Level 2/3 TA) are welcomed, though we prioritize your character and experience.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one).
