Ipswich
Are you ready to step into a role where your arrival is the highlight of a student's day?
We are urgently seeking a proactive and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant for an immediate start at our partner SEN School in Ipswich. This school supports a vibrant community of learners with Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and sensory processing needs. We need someone who can hit the ground running-someone with the energy to engage, the patience to listen, and the heart to support students through their daily challenges and triumphs.
Your Immediate Impact: Responsibilities
- Instant 1:1 Engagement: Provide dedicated support to assigned students, using their personal interests to build rapport and keep them focused on their learning goals.
- Communication Support: Implement Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables to provide clarity and reduce anxiety for students with speech and language delays.
- Positive Co-Regulation: Act as a "calm anchor" during moments of student dysregulation, using de-escalation techniques and sensory breaks to restore a sense of safety.
- Academic Scaffolding: Assist the Class Teacher by breaking down tasks into manageable steps, ensuring every student can experience the "win" of completing a task.
- Small-Step Tracking: Help record daily progress and behavioural observations, contributing to the evidence used in EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work seamlessly with a team of teachers and therapists to maintain a consistent, nurturing, and high-standard learning environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: A naturally calm and nurturing temperament, with the emotional intelligence to support students through high-stress moments.
- Proactive Intuition: You don't wait to be told what to do; you see where a student is struggling and step in with a solution or a supportive word.
- Immediate Availability: The school needs a reliable professional who can start ASAP and commit to a consistent, full-time schedule.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, care, youth work, or sports coaching is highly valued, but a genuine passion for making a difference is the absolute priority.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently via Randstad).
