King's Lynn
Are you ready to be the steadying hand and the encouraging voice for students navigating a world that often feels confusing?
Do you have the professional resilience to stay calm during a student's "storm" and the genuine warmth to celebrate the tiny, life-changing victories that happen every day?
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in King's Lynn. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to work within a purpose-built environment supporting children and young people with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges. In this role, you aren't just "assisting"-you are a vital part of a team that prioritises the dignity, safety, and individual growth of every learner.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Adaptive 1:1 Support: Work closely with individual students to deliver personalised, sensory-friendly activities that make the curriculum accessible and fun.
- Communication Empowerment: Help students express their needs and feelings using Makaton signs, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), or visual timetables.
- Emotional Co-Regulation: Identify early signs of sensory overwhelm and lead "brain breaks" or sensory circuit activities to help students maintain a state of calm.
- EHCP Milestone Tracking: Assist the Class Teacher in observing and recording the "small-step" progress students make toward their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Personal Care with Respect: Provide essential support with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene, ensuring the student's comfort and dignity are always maintained.
- Classroom Synergy: Work as part of a collaborative team, partnering with teachers and therapists to create a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a grounded, supportive presence during periods of challenging behaviour or emotional distress.
- Proactive Intuition: A "ready-for-anything" attitude-you can anticipate a student's frustration and pivot activities before a challenge escalates.
- Consistency: Our students thrive on routine and familiar faces; we need a dependable professional who will be a steady figure in their school week.
- Transferable Skills: Experience in care, support work, psychology, or youth work is highly valued, but a genuine heart for special education is the most important factor.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
