King's Lynn
Are you a seasoned SEN professional who can read a classroom's energy before a single word is spoken?
We are seeking an expert SEN Teaching Assistant for a high-standard SEN School in King's Lynn. Unlike entry-level roles, this position requires mandatory SEN experience-someone who brings a proven toolkit of de-escalation strategies, communication aids, and a deep understanding of neurodiverse profiles. If you are looking for a setting that values your years of expertise and offers a platform for further professional growth, this is the role for you.
Your Expert Impact: Responsibilities
- Complex Case Support: Provide high-level 1:1 intervention for students with complex needs, including those with non-verbal Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and associated sensory challenges.
- Communication Mastery: Lead sessions using Makaton, PECS, and high-tech AAC devices, ensuring that communication is woven into every aspect of the school day.
- Behavioural Excellence: Utilise your experience in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to identify triggers and implement regulation strategies before a crisis occurs.
- Academic Scaffolding: Work with the Class Teacher to adapt curriculum materials on the fly, ensuring that "small-step" learning is both challenging and achievable.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Act as a role model for less experienced staff, demonstrating best practices in student engagement and classroom safety.
- Professional Reporting: Provide detailed observations for EHCP reviews and multidisciplinary meetings, offering insights into student progress and wellbeing.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Proven SEN Experience (Mandatory): Minimum of 1-2 years working within a SEN School or a dedicated SEN unit. We are looking for depth of knowledge, not just general classroom experience.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with Team Teach (or equivalent de-escalation training), sensory diets, and structured teaching frameworks like TEACCH.
- Resilient Emotional Intelligence: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of high student dysregulation.
- Specialist Knowledge: A deep understanding of the sensory and cognitive profiles associated with ASC, SLD, or PMLD.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently through Randstad).
