We are seeking a Teaching Assistant - SEN to join a brand new SEND Secondary School that only opened in September 2025 in Surrey. This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at the start of their journey.
About the Role
This new school is for young people aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. The model includes small classes, high levels of classroom support, and a multi-disciplinary intervention team.
The main purpose of the Teaching Assistant role is to support children with their learning and general wellbeing to help them reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. This may include supporting with care needs from time to time as well as adopting a tailored approach to positive behaviour management.
Key duties include:
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare and positive wellbeing of pupils
Supporting positive behaviour, concentration, and adapting your own responses to any change or escalations in the children's behaviour.
Promoting and encouraging independence and personal development
Implementing and adjusting learning activities as agreed with the teacher and reinforcing learning concepts
Providing resources for lessons/activities under the teacher's direction
Implementing learning activities appropriate to the class group to support the delivery of the curriculum
Providing meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes
Successful Candidate Qualities
Essential:
GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent
Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
Advantageous:
L2 award in supporting teaching and learning in schools or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards it
Previous experience of working within a relevant SEND Provision
Experience working within education
Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
