A unique and influential opportunity exists to join a dedicated team in the Chaldon/Caterham area, reporting directly to the Head of School. This key role involves both whole-school management and deep specialisation in Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision.
The Vision: Key Responsibilities
The primary objective is to take a central role in assisting the Head of School to develop the school in line with its values and development plans. You will be responsible for:
Strategic SEN Leadership: Developing the school's Special Education Needs (SEN) provision and overseeing the day-to-day operation of that policy to raise pupil achievement. You will exercise a key role in advising and assisting the Head of School with the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
Operational Management: Working in close partnership with and supporting the Head of School in the effective day-to-day management of the school and community. This includes overseeing CPD for classroom staff, managing the inset program, and sharing responsibility for the induction and deployment of new staff.
Curriculum & Standards: Taking responsibility for managing and developing learning, teaching, curriculum, assessment, and enrichment across designated phases. You will monitor the effectiveness of teaching and learning (including lesson observations and work scrutiny) and be responsible for raising standards in Teaching and Learning for a team of pupils, teachers, and teaching assistants
Pupil Pathways: Leading the successful identification of meaningful post-16 destinations and implementing successful transition plans. This involves leading Year 9 transition reviews and liaising with colleges regarding specific pupil needs
Compliance and Safeguarding: Ensuring the school carries out its statutory responsibilities in accordance with each pupil's EHCP and defined SEND assessment. You will also carry out safeguarding duties as required
Therapy and Resources: Leading and managing the school's therapy offer , and coordinating the deployment of the school's provision, staff (including therapists), and resources.
Candidate Essentials
To be successful, you must demonstrate the following essential requirements:
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Experience: A proven track record of excellent creative and structured teaching within relevant key stages and/or a special needs environment. This must include leadership of a significant area or phase or inclusion, with responsibility for raising standards across the whole school.
Professional Knowledge: A clear understanding of the essential qualities necessary for effective teaching and learning. You should have an understanding of the implementation of ASD intervention and support strategies (TEACCH or other similar).
Resilience & Fitness: The role requires significant resilience and a degree of physical fitness commensurate with being involved in the full range of school activities and the ability on occasions to be involved in physical restraint.
