We are seeking a proactive and results-oriented professional to join an established school in the Surrey (Chaldon/Caterham) area. This role is perfect for someone ready to drive whole-school improvement while ensuring outstanding outcomes for pupils with diverse needs.
The Challenge: Impact and Accountability
Reporting directly to the Head of School, this position offers significant responsibility and influence across the school community. You will be instrumental in:
Leading Strategic Development: Taking a central role in assisting the Head of School to develop our school in accordance with its shared values and development plans. You will advise on and assist with the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
Driving High Standards: Being responsible for raising standards in Teaching and Learning for a team of pupils, teachers, and teaching assistants across relevant Key Stages. This includes monitoring the effectiveness of teaching and learning through planning scrutiny, work sampling, and lesson observations.
Managing Complex Provision: Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school's special education policy. You will coordinate and deploy the school's provision, staffing (including therapists), and resources in relation to each pupil's EHCP and defined SEND assessment.
Ensuring Compliance and Transition: Leading the successful identification of meaningful Post-16 destinations and securing successful transition plans. You will ensure statutory responsibilities are met and act as Deputy Exam Officer for the site, ensuring JCQ requirements are met.
Operational Management: Working in close partnership with the Head of School on effective day-to-day management , including managing the CPD/inset program , line managing designated individuals , and managing resources to achieve stated aims and sustain high achievement.
Essential Profile: Experience That Matters
To make an immediate impact, you must possess:
QTS or equivalent.
Essential Experience:
A proven track record of excellent creative and structured teaching within relevant key stages and/or a special needs environment.
Leadership of a significant area or phase or inclusion, including responsibility for raising standards across the whole school.
Successful management of complex scenarios and conflict resolution.
Effective team management and working collaboratively with others.
Professional Knowledge:
Up-to-date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance on education, attainment, progress, and assessment methods.
Experience using effective behaviour and teaching strategies , including understanding of the implementation of ASD intervention and support strategies (TEACCH or other similar).
Commitment Requirement: This role requires significant resilience and a degree of physical fitness commensurate with being involved in the full range of school activities and the ability on occasions to be involved in physical restraint.
