Key Responsibilities:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in a specialist setting, your role is crucial to the well-being and progress of every pupil. You will be responsible for:
Working with teachers and therapists to carry out bespoke Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) that address specific and complex needs.
Offering tailored academic, social, and emotional support to pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), or severe learning difficulties (SLD).
Utilising specialist communication aids and techniques, such as Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables, to facilitate learning and engagement.
Being a trusted and consistent figure for pupils, helping them to feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.
Vigilantly ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils, adhering to all school safeguarding protocols.
Requirements:
To be successful in this specialist role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children with complex or specific SEND in an educational or care setting.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas like Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or similar strategies is highly desirable.
Exceptional resilience, patience, and a calm, compassionate demeanour.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils and helping them achieve their potential.
