Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant for a rewarding role in the Sheffield area. We're looking for someone to support a vibrant primary school with pupils who have a range of additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the success of the classroom. You will be responsible for:
Providing bespoke one-on-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of needs, including communication difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and physical disabilities.
Working closely with the class teacher to adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual pupil needs, ensuring all children can access the curriculum.
Acting as a key point of contact for a pupil, providing consistent emotional and pastoral support to help them feel secure and confident in school.
Putting into practice specific communication and learning strategies, such as PECS or Makaton, to support non-verbal or pre-verbal pupils.
Maintaining accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour, providing valuable feedback to the teacher and wider support team.
Encouraging pupils to develop their own learning strategies and social skills, helping them build confidence and self-reliance.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children with SEND in an educational or care setting.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or similar strategies is highly desirable.
A compassionate, patient, and highly adaptable approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
