About the school
We are recruiting for a highly regarded Specialist School in the Castleford area that supports primary-aged pupils with a wide range of complex needs. This includes Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism (ASD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The school is known for its warm, nurturing atmosphere and its commitment to providing a "sensory-first" curriculum that helps children engage with the world around them.
The Role
Position: SEND Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-time, Ad-hoc Cover (Ongoing)
Daily Rate: £90 - £110 (depending on experience)
This is a dynamic role providing essential cover across various classrooms. You will be a versatile "helping hand," supporting pupils who may be non-verbal or require significant sensory regulation throughout the school day.
Required Skills & Duties
Adaptability: Confidently moving between classes to support different age groups and needs.
Communication: Using PECS or Makaton to assist non-verbal pupils.
Personal Care: Assisting with feeding, toileting, and mobility (hoisting/moving and handling).
Sensory Support: Leading sensory play and calming activities for pupils with high anxiety or ASD.
MUST HAVES
Enhanced DBS: On the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one).
Right to Work: Valid eligibility to work in the UK.
Experience: Previous experience with SEND, specifically PMLD or ASD.
Qualifications: Relevant Level 2/3 TA or Care qualification is preferred.
