We are recruiting for a well-established and highly regarded Specialist School in the West Yorkshire area. This "Foundation Special Schoo" is a centre of excellence for students aged 11-19 who have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and associated complex needs.
The school is renowned for its student-centred curriculum and inclusive atmosphere, where the focus is on developing communication, independence, and social skills. Facilities are second-to-none, featuring a dedicated Health Suite, a Multi-sensory room, and a specialised Independent Living flat designed to prepare students for the transition into adulthood. The Role
This is a full-time position for a SEND Teaching Assistant. You will be an integral part of the classroom, providing consistent support to students who require a high level of care and guidance throughout the school day. This is a role for someone who is patient, resilient, and genuinely motivated by student progress.
Daily Rate: £90 - £110 (depending on experience)
Required Skills
Resilience: The ability to handle challenging situations with a calm and positive professional manner.
Specialised Communication: Experience or a strong interest in learning Makaton, PECS, or other augmentative communication methods.
Patience: A genuine commitment to supporting students who may take longer to reach their learning milestones.
Duties
Providing 1-to-1 and small group support to ensure students engage with their individualised learning plans.
Assisting with personal care, including hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
Helping students develop life skills, such as social interaction and basic independent living tasks.
Implementing positive behaviour support strategies to ensure a safe and productive classroom environment.
MUST HAVES
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
Enhanced DBS: An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one via Randstad).
Eligibility: Valid and proven right to work in the UK.
Experience: Previous experience working with children or adults with complex SEND (specifically SLD or Autism).
Qualifications: Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or Health & Social Care) are highly desirable.
