Duties of the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant in this specialist setting, your role is pivotal in maintaining a safe and productive learning environment for pupils with complex needs.
Delivering highly personalised support to pupils with a variety of needs, including ASC, SEMH, and SLD.
Assisting in the delivery of individualised learning programmes and sensory circuits.
Managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
Supporting pupils with personal care or mobility requirements where necessary.
Collaborating closely with therapists, parents, and the school leadership team to track developmental milestones.
Skills & Experience Required
Please note: Significant prior experience working with SEND pupils is essential for this role.
A deep understanding of different SEND diagnoses and how they impact learning.
Proven experience in managing complex behaviours and staying calm in high-pressure situations.
Proficiency in alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS or Makaton) is highly desirable.
The ability to work seamlessly within a large team of support staff and specialists.
Essential Requirements
To be successful in your application, you must possess:
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one immediately).
Valid eligibility to work within the UK.
Experience in a SEND-specific environment (School, PRU, or specialist unit).
