We have a Shunter vacancy available within TATA Steel's Llanwern works. Llanwern operates a Heavy Gauge department which is undergoing significant growth. The suitable applicant will be someone that considers themselves to be proactive, reliable and can work safely at pace. Full training will be provided.

Role: Shunter
Location: TATA Steel, Llanwern Works, Newport NP19 4QZ
Salary: £13ph
Shifts: 9.5 hours per day with a 30 minute unpaid break. 47.5 hours per week.
06:00-16:00 with the potential for some shifts to also be 08:00-18:00.
Contract length: 12 months initially
Start: ASAP but pending the result of a medical assessment, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test
Shift Patterns: 37.5 hours per week, Double days, working Monday to Thursday 05:30-13:30 and 13:30 to 22:00 and Friday 0600-11:40 and 11:40-17:10.
Start: ASAP pending Occupational Health check which includes a Drug and Alcohol test
Responsibilities:
- Collecting, connecting and dropping off trailers in and around the Heavy Gauge area on the Llanwern works
- Strapping Steel product, ensuring that it always complies with restraint guidelines
- Reporting to multiple Heavy Gauge Team Leaders on a daily basis and reporting any issues immediately
- Working to a daily KPI but with safety being paramount
- Ensuring the safe movement and arrangement of vehicles within the designated areas
- Following site Health and Safety rules and ensuring those around you do the same
- Challenging unsafe conditions and actions accordingly
- Working flexibly and as directed to meet the needs of the business
- Understanding and deploying continuous improvement and problem-solving techniques
Essential requirements:
- Full UK Driving licence and (due to the nature of the site) access to own vehicle
- Previous experience in a Shunter/LGV/Trailer capacity (2+ years)
- Prior experience and good awareness around strapping product onto trailers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as communicate effectively as part of a team
