The Social Work Consultant at Durham County Council is a senior practitioner role that aligns closely with the Assistant Team Manager position. This role is designed for experienced social workers who are ready to take on leadership and supervisory responsibilities within children's or adult social care services.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision:
Provide reflective supervision and guidance to social workers and support staff.
Lead case discussions, ensuring that complex cases are managed effectively.
Support the development and performance management of team members.
Case Management and Decision Making:
Oversee complex and high-risk cases, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Make informed decisions regarding care plans and interventions.
Represent the team in multi-agency meetings and court proceedings when necessary.
Quality Assurance and Practice Development:
Conduct audits and reviews to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement within the team.
Identify training needs and support the professional development of staff.
Strategic Contribution:
Contribute to the development and implementation of service strategies.
Engage in service planning and development activities.
Foster a culture of high expectations and accountability within the team.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
A recognized social work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW).
Registration with Social Work England.
Significant post-qualification experience in statutory social work.
Experience in supervising or managing staff.
In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks (e.g., Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014).
Desirable:
Additional qualifications or training in leadership or management.
Experience in a specific area of practice (e.g., child protection, adult safeguarding).
Skills in training delivery and practice development.
