About the Role:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of kinship foster carers, supporting them through the approval process and towards securing Special Guardianship Orders (SGOs) where appropriate.
- Provide direct supervision and support to kinship foster carers, ensuring compliance with fostering legislation and best practice.
- Attend and contribute to key meetings, such as CLA reviews, transition meetings, care planning meetings, and PEP meetings.
- Undertake kinship fostering assessments (Form C/K), viability assessments, special guardianship assessments, and other assessments as required, meeting tight deadlines.
- Work with a trauma-informed and restorative approach, supporting positive, safe, and nurturing experiences for children and young people.
- Plan and prioritize workload effectively, ensuring urgent deadlines are met.
- Participate in regular supervision, keeping your manager informed of significant issues.
- Produce high-quality assessments and reports, including court statements and reports.
- Support individuals, carers, and families when disagreements arise regarding social work interventions.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and training of kinship foster carers.
- Be available for occasional out-of-hours work to support carer forums, training, recruitment, or assessments outside of Shropshire (including overnight stays if necessary).
Requirements:
- Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
- Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience. Experience working with kinship carers or in permanence planning is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of fostering legislation, including the process of securing SGOs.
- Excellent assessment, report-writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to person-centered practice and a trauma-informed approach.
