Responsibilities:
- Completing Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI) assessments, which are the standard tool in Scotland for assessing risk and need.
- Contributing to Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) for high-risk individuals, ensuring that police and community services are prepared for a prisoner's release.
- Assessing the suitability of a prisoner's proposed home address for parole or home leave.
- Preparing detailed dossiers for the Parole Board of Scotland to inform decisions on early release.
- Leading or contributing to ICM meetings, which bring together the prisoner, their family, and prison staff to plan the sentence and eventual release.
- Providing updates to the courts regarding an individual's progress if they are serving a specific order.
- Coordinating with community social workers to ensure "seamless throughcare." This includes arranging housing, addiction support, and mental health referrals.
- Managing the legal requirements for prisoners who will be under compulsory supervision for up to 12 months post-release.
- Offering support to short-term prisoners (those serving less than 4 years) who are not legally required to see a social worker but request help with resettlement.
- Working one-on-one with prisoners to address the "criminogenic needs" (factors like substance abuse, anger management, or pro-criminal attitudes) that led to their incarceration.
- Facilitating or co-facilitating accredited group programs aimed at reducing reoffending.
- Utilizing a trauma-informed lens to engage prisoners who may have significant histories of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
- Managing cases where there are concerns about the children of prisoners, including liaising with external "Children and Families" social work teams.
- Helping maintain or rebuild positive family ties, which is a proven factor in reducing the likelihood of reoffending.
Requirements:
- Social Work Degree
- SSSC registration
- PVG
