Responsibilities:
- In Midlothian, the Children and Families 0-26 service is a comprehensive statutory and support framework designed to provide continuity of care from birth through young adulthood. The service is structured around The Promise-a commitment to ensure care-experienced children grow up loved and safe-and operates under a "GIRFEC" (Getting It Right For Every Child) model.
- Investigating referrals from schools, police, or health professionals to determine if a child is at risk.
- Managing the Child Protection Register and conducting investigations where there are concerns of abuse or neglect.
- Providing immediate, brief support to stabilise a family crisis.
- Assessing children with disabilities and coordinating Self-Directed Support (SDS) to give families more control over their care.
- Providing "edge of care" support to help children remain safely at home with their birth parents.
- Managing the care plans for children in foster care, residential care, or kinship care.
- Preparing detailed evidence for Children's Hearings, permanence panels, and courts.
- Facilitating meetings where extended family members help create a safety plan for the child, prioritising kinship care over local authority care.
- Under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, the team has a duty to support eligible young people in their care placements until age 21.
- Providing financial, emotional, and housing advice to care leavers up to age 26.
- A specific initiative that helps care leavers move into their own tenancies while providing a community of support to prevent homelessness.
- Managing cases for 16-18 year olds who have entered the justice system, focusing on diversion from prosecution and restorative justice.
- Dedicated workers provide specialised support for young people arriving in Midlothian without family.
- Identifying and supporting children who provide care for a parent or sibling through Young Carer Statements.
Requirements:
- Social Work Degree
- SSSC registration
- PVG
