The Role: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a proactive and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to join our specialist support team. This focused position involves working primarily with individuals and small groups of children who have complex or specific educational needs, which may include physical disabilities, speech and language delays, or moderate learning difficulties. You will be responsible for providing intense, consistent, and personalized support, acting as a key trusted adult for some of our most vulnerable pupils.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted interventions and specific therapeutic programs (e.g., sensory diets, social stories, speech exercises) as directed by the SENCo and external specialists.
- Observe and meticulously record the progress, achievements, and challenges of designated SEN pupils, contributing to statutory reviews and IEP updates.
- Adapt and modify learning resources and activities within the classroom to make the curriculum accessible and engaging for supported pupils.
- Facilitate inclusion by supporting pupils to participate in whole-class activities and promoting positive peer relationships.
- Manage challenging behaviours using approved, consistent strategies to de-escalate situations and teach self-regulation skills.
- Maintain continuous communication with parents/carers and the SENCo regarding the pupil's daily well-being and progress.
- Support the pupil's physical and emotional needs throughout the school day, prioritizing their comfort and safety.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience working directly with children who have a diagnosed Special Educational Need.
- Deep familiarity with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or EHC (Education, Health and Care) plans.
- A qualification related to child support, education, or specific SEN areas (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, relevant short courses).
- Proven ability to remain calm and empathetic while managing complex and potentially challenging situations.
- Knowledge of various communication aids and strategies (e.g., visual timetables, simplified language, supportive technology).
- Outstanding organizational skills for monitoring pupil data and preparing bespoke resources.
- A strong commitment to professional training and continuous learning in specialist SEN fields.
