Randstad Student Support is looking for dedicated Specialist Mentors to provide tailored, one-to-one support to autistic students at Newman University. This hybrid role begins with the new academic year and offers flexible working hours to suit your availability.

As a Specialist Mentor, you'll work closely with individual students, providing non-therapeutic support to help them navigate the challenges of university life associated with autism. Your role will be key in empowering students to build confidence, independence, and academic success.
Key Responsibilities
You will support students by helping them to:
Understand academic expectations and course requirements
Improve time management and organisational skills
Break tasks down into manageable steps to meet deadlines
Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood related to their studies or student life
Prepare for unfamiliar or challenging situations
Develop confidence and independence by building on their strengths
You will also collaborate with Randstad to monitor progress, raise concerns when necessary, and maintain professional standards, including confidentiality at all times.
Essential Criteria
To work as a Specialist Mentor under the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), you must meet the qualification criteria set out by the Department for Education.
You must:
Hold a relevant undergraduate degree (minimum Level 6)
Have completed autism-specific training suitable for mentoring in higher education
Eligible training includes:
Six NAS Modules (Non-Medical Helper package),
OR
The Optimum Training Course - Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies

Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience supporting autistic individuals, ideally within an educational setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Confidence in managing your own caseload
