Randstad Student Support is seeking experienced one-on-one Study Skills Support Workers to assist university students in Aberdeen who have specific learning difficulties (SpLDs). This is a chance to make a tangible difference in a student's educational journey. The role is a hybrid model, offering flexibility with both in-person and online sessions, and we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
As a Specialist Study Skills Support Worker, you will provide personalized learning support, including:
- Developing individual learning plans to promote independence.
- Building on student strengths and effective learning strategies.
- Enhancing organization and time management skills.
- Creating structured action plans to help students stay on track.
- Improving research and comprehension abilities.
- Managing a caseload of students effectively and professionally.
Experience with students on the autism spectrum is a significant advantage.
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience, or
- In-depth knowledge of specific learning difficulties.
Desirable Skills
The ideal candidate will also possess:
- Experience working with individuals who have specific learning difficulties.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to identify and build on a student's learning strengths while maintaining a confidential and professional relationship.
- A high degree of punctuality and reliability.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Membership in a relevant professional body, such as:
- The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)
- British Dyslexia Association (BDA)
- The Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE)
- Dyslexia Guild (DG)
