About the Role
...
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and highly consistent individual for a rewarding role as a Support Worker. We require a reliable, experienced professional who is also a confident driver to work with a young person who has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Learning Difficulties, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
This highly structured role involves supporting the Client in their home, educational placement, and community environments. The focus is on strictly adhering to a robust Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan developed by a specialist team.
The Client thrives on predictability and routine.
Communication is focused on basic wants and needs; they require consistent support to process and comprehend information.
The Client enjoys movement-based activities and short periods of shared adult play.
Consistency is paramount. The Client experiences significant anxiety, which often leads to impulsive and risky behaviour when triggered by inconsistent routines or unfamiliar staff. Therefore, candidates must ensure consistent attendance, strict routine adherence, and uniform application of all support strategies.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Tasks
You will be instrumental in helping the Client achieve their personal goals (e.g., managing emotions, increasing engagement, and communication).
Implement PBS Strategies Consistently: Apply primary prevention strategies, such as using a 'now and next' board throughout the day in all environments, to maintain a structured and predictable routine.
Structured Communication: Use simple, direct language (1-2 key words) and supported visuals. Be willing to learn and utilise the Client's unique vocabulary.
Encourage Engagement: Provide short, responsive bursts of Intensive Interaction.
Travel and Community Access (Driving Essential): Safely transport the Client to and from their educational placement and various community activities.
Essential Requirements
Experience: Proven experience as a Support Worker, particularly with young people who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Learning Difficulties.
Driver: Must possess a full, clean driving license and be comfortable driving the client to and from activities.
Personal Qualities: Must be exceptionally calm, highly consistent, patient, proactive, and fully committed to maintaining a predictable routine.
