Level 2 Teaching Assistant Opportunity
Location: Merstham area, Surrey
Reporting to: Teacher
Main Purpose of the Role To support the learning and general wellbeing of pupils to ensure every child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. This includes positive behaviour management and supporting with care needs where necessary.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding: Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare and positive wellbeing of pupils. This includes attending to pupils' personal needs when required, such as toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating. You will support positive behaviour and concentration levels and adapt your responses to any changes in the children's behaviour.
Supporting Teaching and Learning: Implement, and adjust when appropriate, learning activities as agreed with the teacher. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers and arrange or provide resources for lessons under the teacher's direction.
Monitoring and Recording: Participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities. Provide meaningful feedback on pupil attainment and progress, including next steps. Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing, reporting, and recording pupil progress.
Collaboration: Work co-operatively with colleagues, parents/carers, and other professionals following a multidisciplinary approach.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications: Level 2 award in supporting teaching and learning in schools or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards it.
Experience & Knowledge:
Previous experience (at least one year) of working within a relevant SEND Provision.
Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
Experience working within education is advantageous.
Skills:
Commitment to the role, with a desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual.
Ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
Good numeracy and literacy skills, and competent ICT skills.
Flexible, adaptable, and solution-focused.
Requirements and Further Information
Checks: Satisfactory Enhanced DBS with barred list checks are required.
Physical Demands: You must be able to meet the demands of work that can be physically challenging at times.
Development: You will be required to participate in regular training, supervision, appraisal, and continuous professional development.
