Royston
Are you an enthusiastic and supportive individual ready to step into a classroom after the half-term break to assist young learners and nurture a lifelong love of learning?
Can you work alongside class teachers to deliver focused group interventions that balance early academic targets with positive, encouraging support?
Are you looking to secure a full-time, long-term Teaching Assistant post starting after the holidays, or flexible day-to-day supply support roles across primary schools in Royston?
Randstad is currently recruiting dedicated Teaching Assistants for a full-time, long-term contract starting after the half-term break at a welcoming partner Primary School in Royston. Alongside this ongoing placement, we are actively onboarding adaptable classroom assistants for flexible day-to-day supply cover across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Whether you are seeking the stability of an assigned classroom or the freedom of flexible daily bookings, this school offers a rich learning environment focused on pupil attainment and well-being.
Your Responsibilities
- Targeted Learning Interventions: Support the class teacher by leading small-group activities in reading, phonics, and numeracy tailored to pupils needing extra boost support (or stepping in dynamically across classrooms on supply).
- Resource & Classroom Readiness: Assist in setting up practical learning apparatus, interactive literacy tools, and creative materials to ensure a safe, organised, and effective learning environment.
- 1:1 & SEND Pupil Support: Provide patient, one-to-one assistance to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or English as an Additional Language (EAL), keeping them focused and engaged.
- Progress Observation & Feedback: Monitor student participation, note learning milestones or challenges, and share actionable observations with the class teacher and SENCO.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Model and reinforce whole-school positive behaviour strategies during classroom lessons, hall transitions, and playground breaks.
- Team Handover & Communication: Work collaboratively with teaching staff across the school day, or provide clear handover notes to permanent staff after completing supply shifts.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Experience or Qualifications: Prior experience working with primary-aged children (in mainstream classrooms, nursery provisions, or childcare settings) or a relevant Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- Foundational Knowledge: Solid numeracy and literacy skills, an understanding of early phonics schemes, and familiarity with positive behaviour reinforcement techniques.
- Professional Resilience & Adaptability: A calm, compassionate, and grounded approach to guiding young children, whether settled into an ongoing room assignment or supporting various year groups on daily supply.
- Collaborative Ethos: A genuine commitment to working seamlessly alongside teachers and support staff to prioritise student welfare and progress.
- Vetting Requirements: Holds an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or readiness to complete a new application via Randstad).
