As a Vegetation Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end delivery of vegetation management projects across rail networks. This role involves planning, coordinating, and supervising vegetation works, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and clients to ensure that vegetation management practices are carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption to rail operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of vegetation management projects from start to finish, ensuring they meet budget, schedule, and quality standards.
Team Leadership: Manage a team of vegetation specialists, contractors, and site operatives, providing guidance and ensuring the effective coordination of resources.
Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships, understanding client requirements, and ensuring their expectations are met.
Health & Safety Management: Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safety-first culture within the team and ensuring the implementation of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
Environmental Compliance: Oversee the implementation of sustainable vegetation management practices, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and biodiversity protection standards.
Budget and Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets, monitor costs, and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality in all vegetation management works, including routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular project status reports to senior management, including progress, risks, issues, and key milestones.
Resource Management: Oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and machinery required for vegetation management projects.
Stakeholder Coordination: Work with local authorities, utility companies, environmental bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery and minimal disruption to the public and rail services.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in vegetation management, ideally within the rail or infrastructure sector.
Strong project management experience, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to the rail industry and vegetation management.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and other relevant software tools.
A relevant degree or qualification in environmental science, ecology, horticulture, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
Knowledge of rail industry standards, practices, and regulations is an advantage.
Full UK Driving License.
