What are the five top apps in student support

  1. Evernote
  2. Duolingo
  3. Wunderlist
  4. Headspace
  5. TED

With the total number of mobile app downloads reaching 194 billion in 2018, it’s no secret that most of our life takes place on our smartphones. It no longer matters what device you have, if it's the latest iPhone or Android, you can be sure that there's an app for every operating system.

From checking the weather to buying a new pair of shoes, the power is in the palm of our hands. And as more apps become available, it’s becoming increasingly evident that developers are focusing on tools for the workplace - especially for education.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of our top 5 favourite apps to help you better support the students you work with:

1. Evernote

Got more handwritten notes than you can handle? Working in student support, you may end up with quite a bit of paperwork but thanks to this app you can now scan them into your phone using your camera. You can also take notes straight from the app, create to-do lists, add images, and make sketches – there’s very little this app can’t do!

2. Duolingo

According to The Wall Street Journal, this is "The best language-learning app" – and we would have to agree. Communication is key in a support worker's role – so why not learn a new language to add to your CV?

3. Wunderlist

Sometimes there may be more than one area of improvement for the student you are assisting and it can be tough to remember which points to cover. Say hello to Wunderlist! Whether you’re working on a project, planning a holiday, or simply putting together a to-do list Wunderlist makes it easy to share and collaborate with everyone in your life.

4. Headspace

We’ve all heard of mindfulness, but how many of us actually put it into practice? Support work can be tough, and this app will help you get the most out of your day. It teaches you meditation techniques and mindfulness best practices. You could even pass these tips on to the students who you support too!

5. TED

If you’re looking to feed your curiosity and expand your world, this is the best app to use. The library contains thousands of inspiring talks, from multiple disciplines, in over 100 languages. This is a great app to use if you want to motivate your students to do better in their education.
