Oli has worked within the Primary Education team at the Cambridge office for just over three years. Oli works closely with the two other members of the primary team, Tom and Lindsy and is also responsible for finding permanent and long term contract work for our primary teachers and teaching assistants throughout Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. When not in the office or looking after his two year old, Oli is a keen runner and cyclist and tries to be out on his bike as much as possible. Randstad Education - Cambridge

Covering the three education authorities of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, our Cambridge office of Randstad Education is one of the most successful, experienced and busy branches in the country. Our knowledgeable team of consultants have worked for Randstad for a collective total of 36 years – an average of over 5 years per consultant. Our consultants are regularly nominated for and win nationwide consultant of the month prizes and the office manager has been named Consultant of the year and Manager of the year!

As an office, we have been based in Cambridge for over 15 years and have developed strong and lasting relationships with schools throughout Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Drawing on our collective experience, we like to think that we have an excellent working knowledge of the education market and what our client schools are ideally looking for when recruiting for permanent and part-time posts. As a branch we support a diverse portfolio of schools and academies. These schools range in size, catchment, religious background and ethos. Within these schools the teachers and teaching assistants support with pupils of different ability levels, SEN and EAL across all of the key stages.

As a team, we appreciate that every school and child is different so we can carefully match our teachers with the schools and children to which they will work to the best of their ability. The teachers we work with have to meet our strict criteria. It is important for our teachers to treat every assignment as if it is a permanent role; injecting a sense of purpose into the classroom and helping the school to the best of their ability. Our teachers and teaching assistants are encouraged to build professional relationships with pupils and staff and always ensure effective classroom management is maintained in line with each individual school’s behaviour policy.

Working in the Community

Part of our ongoing commitment to our schools and candidates is to constantly evolve and develop our working relationships. With a larger client base per head than any other branch we are always looking for ways in which to provide the best service to our partner schools and candidates. In order to be able to continuously develop the service that we provide to our clients we actively involve ourselves in social and community events. Over the past few years we have sponsored various events and teams, from local primary school football teams, to providing sports equipment to large SEN schools even to sponsoring school go-karting teams in line with our corporate sponsorship deal with Williams F1!

All of our consultants live in different parts of the three counties and as such, we have close links to our own local schools. Our consultants regularly help out at school open days and fund-raising events. These have ranged from running art competitions and providing raffle prizes to even sponsoring a local ice rink for our schools to use during the Christmas term!

Testimonials

“I have worked for Randstad Education for 3 years, providing short and long term teaching cover in Primary schools within Bristol and the surrounding area. Randstad provide a professional service with clear expectations of my professional conduct. I know in advance what a job will entail and that my school contact will treat me with respect and in a professional manner.

All the Randstad personnel I deal with are friendly and ready to support with constructive advice. When problems have arisen regarding a booking or if there has been a query over pay, this has been dealt with quickly and efficiently and with a satisfactory outcome.

I would recommend Randstad for their friendly & professional approach and for their support whenever needed.”
Richard Sandom-Brown, Primary Supply Teacher, Sept 2013

“Having worked as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school for some years, I decided to take the additional step of qualifying to become a primary school teacher. I completed my PGCE course this summer and have been with Randstad ever since. Throughout this time I have received career advice and support from the whole team. I was guided through the application process by a consultant with an in-depth knowledge of the schools in my area. This advice and support has continued throughout. Before I am sent to a school, I am able to discuss the work with my advisor, who is always ready to answer any questions I may have. I feel confident knowing that I can contact the office throughout the day and the primary-specific consultants always take the time to talk to me and provide constructive feedback about my assignments.

Randstad have offered me work on a regular basis, and I am confident that this will continue to be the case. I can safely say that they have kept me very busy indeed – I Haven’t missed a day’s work when I’ve been available since the beginning of term! However, this said, I also have flexibility within my working schedule, because I am able to decide when I need to take a day off. This has proved extremely useful when other commitments arise and Randstad are always accepting and understanding of this.

I like working for Randstad because I know that I am gaining a huge amount of experience and knowledge about different schools and different year groups within my local area. I also have support from a team of professional and knowledgeable advisors who take the time to guide me through each and every assignment. I am confident that I will be paid promptly each week and that the work I am doing will continue to be available. As an NQT, I can safely say that the breadth of experience I have gained since working for Randstad has been of great value to me and I am sure that it will only serve to enhance my future teaching career. ”
Eraina P – Primary Supply Teacher NQT

“I moved to Cambridge from Australia in 2010. I had been working as a supply teacher there for a little over a year after completing my degree. I initially worked for a different supply agency, but as time went on I was unhappy with both the amount of work they were finding me, and their way of doing business. Early in 2011, on the recommendation of other supply teachers I encountered, I contacted Randstad.

Immediately I appreciated their approach. It felt like a partnership, with them showing a genuine interest in finding work that was best suited for my needs. I have never been pressured to accept work that I did not wish too, and they have always been unhesitating about working around my schedule.

I have consistently had work through Randstad, both day to day and many longer term positions. I am frequently contacted towards the end of any long term contracts with information on upcoming positions they feel I may be interested in. I have been kept busy enough that I no longer had time to accept any work from my previous agency.

I greatly enjoy working for Tom, Oli and Lindsy at Randstad. I always recommend the Cambridge team to any supply teachers I talk to, and have complete confidence that they will have as positive an experience as I have. ”
Anna R – Overseas trained Primary Teacher

“I am an experienced Early Years teacher living in Cambridge and I have been working for Randstad in Cambridge since 2007 when I finished working in permanent jobs. My specialisms lie in working with Nursery classes and Foundation classes.

I find the staff in the office friendly, supportive and extremely efficient. Tom Lindsy and Oli have an excellent understanding of the type and volume of work that I want and have consistently provided me with a steady flow of bookings on a weekly basis at a wide variety of schools each term.

I enjoy working for such a highly professional teaching agency and always recommend them to other teachers who I meet when I’m working on supply.”
Karen W – Experienced KS1 teacher

“I am currently undertaking a PhD in Education (specialising in Psychology and Education) at the University of Cambridge and also hold a Masters of Philosophy in Education (Psychology and Education). Prior to this I completed my Bachelor of Teaching (Primary Education) at the University of Melbourne and also worked as a teacher for 4 years within Australian schools. Since arriving in Cambridge in 2010, I have been fortunate to work for Randstad Education on a casual basis, an opportunity which has allowed me to build considerably on my previous teaching experience in Australia, as well as apply the new knowledge which I have gained in educational theory and psychology at the University of Cambridge.

During my three years with Randstad, I have found them to be thoroughly professional, approachable and accommodating of my particular needs as a teacher. I have been able to gain a wide range of experience teaching in a number of schools in the Cambridgeshire region and have been able to enrich my skills across many subject areas in both KS1 and 2 through both short and longer term posts. In my time with Randstad, they have also been able to provide me with more regular work in those schools which I have found to be a particular match to my skill set and areas of interest. For example, I have undertaken a specialised music teaching position and have also had the opportunity to work with supporting students in small group contexts who possess special educational needs.

I am always confident that Randstad will be able to provide me with regular work when needed and I have also found them to be flexible when I require time to focus on my research at the University. It is also common that many of my bookings at schools are made in advance, something which helps me to better plan my week and additional commitments.

One of the best things about working for Randstad is their personable attitude and their sincere encouragement of my development as a teacher. They have been great with providing me with feedback from my teaching in schools and the Primary team always make me feel like a highly valued member of their teaching team. When I moved to the UK in 2010, I was fortunate to know several other Australians who were working as supply teachers in Cambridge and they all recommended Randstad as the best agency to work for. Based on my 3 years of experience with them, I would have no hesitation in doing the same. ”
Overseas Trained Primary Teacher - Emma C

“After working as a science teacher in a large 11-18 comprehensive in Cambridgeshire for over eighteen years, I decided to have a break from full-time teaching a few years ago. Several months later I signed up with Randstad Education, intending to do day-to-day supply rather than go back into a permanent or even temporary “proper” teaching post.

In the last four years, I've been sent to 42 different schools, all within an hour's drive of my home, although most much closer. I visit several schools on a regular basis, where I have got to know some staff and students.

Being a science teacher who can also offer maths has meant the work has never been in short supply, and each year the work has continued up until the end of the summer term. Between October and May it has been common for me to have work on five days in most weeks, but taking days off or even going away for a week or more in the middle of the term is never a problem.

I've recently undertaken some short-term part-time positions. I've always been offered long term; full time and permanent roles, but I've turned them down because that's not what I want to do. Meanwhile, other work through Randstad has included one-to-one maths tutoring and supporting an NQT - all interesting and varied stuff!”
Brian C – Secondary Science Teacher

“I successfully qualified as a PE teacher in the summer of 2012; unfortunately I was not so lucky to find a permanent position straight out of Uni so went on to study for my MA Education. Knowing that I was going to complete my Masters in September, I looked at registering with numerous supply agencies to help me in my search for my first teaching post.

I registered with Randstad in August 2013, and have since found them to be one of the most approachable, reliable and efficient organisations in the supply field. Marleen and her team kept in regular contact, keeping me up-to-date on the progress of my registration and of any short-term and long-term PE positions which they had available. Only a week after my registration was completed I was offered a post in a reputable Cambridgeshire school, initially on a short-term basis; which has since been extended to a rolling long-term position.

The secondary teaching team maintain regular contact with the school and any feedback is fed through to me on a weekly basis. I have great faith in Randstad’s ability to help find me work once my current contract has finished. The team go to great lengths to get to know you as a person, and as a teacher, using that knowledge to find and place you in a school where you will be happy and where there are strong prospects for career progression.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Randstad to those both new to the profession and more experienced teachers; the quality of service and care that Randstad offer to the teachers on their books in second-to-none. Assuming you are a dedicated, friendly, reliable and professional individual you may only expect the same and more, in return from all at Randstad.”
