Job Description
As a Band 5 RGN, you will be integral to the effective functioning of the Emergency Departments, providing high-quality patient care. You will work within a dynamic environment, supporting the medical team in delivering timely and efficient interventions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct rapid triage, provide Resus support, and perform acute interventions such as IVs, cannulation, and wound care across Majors, Minors, and CDU.
- Continuously monitor vital signs using NEWS2 and promptly escalate any deteriorating patients.
- Assist with complex cases within the Major Trauma Centre framework.
- Manage patient flow, conduct SBAR handovers, and participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning.
- Maintain meticulous digital records, report incidents via Datix, and adhere strictly to infection control policies.
- Provide compassionate communication to families in crisis and mentor junior staff and students.
Qualifications
- General Nursing Degree
- Completed immunisation records (BCG, Hepatitis B, MMR).
- Evidence of mandatory training.
- Experience working within an Emergency Department setting in the NHS is mandatory
- Proficiency in clinical skills including rapid triage, acute interventions, and patient monitoring.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide support to patients and families.
Working Hours & Rates
This is a DAY shift-based role with varied patterns including
- Early (07:30 - 15:30)
- Standard Day (08:00 - 17:00)
- Late (12:30 - 20:30), and
- Long Day (07:30 - 20:30) shifts.
The rate for Basic Umbrella is £19.12 per hour.
Requirements
- Right to Work in the UK (No sponsorship provided)
NMC Registration: Active PIN with no restrictions.
- Experience: Minimum 6 months of recent experience in an NHS hospital setting.
Compliance: You must have an Enhanced DBS (on the update service) and valid Mandatory Training certificates.
Reliability: You are expected to maintain your 2-shift-per-week commitment to remain on the priority booking list.
