My client are seeking a dedicated and proactive Shift Maintenance Technician (M&E) to join their essential night team. This is a crucial role responsible for the continuous maintenance and operational integrity of all mechanical and electrical systems within a critical financial services building, ensuring uninterrupted service for our client's vital operations.
Location: City of London (Critical Financial Services Building)
Salary: £48,000 per annum
Shift Pattern: Continental Shift (5 on 4 off, 4 on 5 off, 5 on 5 off - 12-hour nights only)
The Role:
As a Night Shift Maintenance Technician, you will be a key member of the on-site engineering team, working independently and as part of a small, dedicated night crew. Your primary responsibility will be to perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and critical system monitoring across a wide range of M&E plant, ensuring the building's infrastructure supports 24/7 financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
... Critical Systems Maintenance: Execute scheduled planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on a diverse range of critical mechanical and electrical systems, including:
Electrical: UPS systems, generators, switchgear, power distribution, emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, and associated controls.
Mechanical: HVAC systems (AHUs, FCUs, CRAC units, chillers, boilers, pumps), cooling towers, pressurisation units, and associated pipework.
Fault Diagnosis & Resolution: Accurately diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults efficiently and implement effective, lasting repairs to minimise downtime in a live, critical environment.
System Monitoring & Response: Continuously monitor Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, and other critical system alarms. Respond promptly and effectively to all alarms and emergency situations, taking immediate corrective actions.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all work is carried out in strict accordance with relevant health and safety regulations, statutory requirements, industry best practices, and site-specific safe systems of work (SSOW). Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, plant readings, and incidents using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Contractor Liaison: Supervise and escort specialist external contractors during out-of-hours works, ensuring their adherence to site procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.
Plant Operations: Perform routine plant checks, meter readings, and system performance reviews to identify early signs of faults or inefficiencies, proactively addressing potential issues.
Emergency Procedures: Be fully conversant with and capable of executing site emergency procedures, including power outages, fire alarms, and critical system failures.
Communication: Maintain clear and concise communication with the day shift team, site management, and client representatives regarding ongoing works, incidents, and resolutions.
About You:
M&E Qualified: Hold recognized qualifications in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds 2360/2330/2365 Levels 2 & 3 Electrical Installations, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, and relevant mechanical qualifications like NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
Critical Environment Experience: Demonstrable experience as an M&E Maintenance Technician within a critical environment, such as a data centre, financial services building, or similar 24/7
