Braintree
Are you a confident communicator with a "can-do" attitude and the presence to lead a secondary classroom?
Do you live in or around Braintree and want to gain invaluable education experience without the commitment of planning or marking?
Whether you are a graduate, a former sports coach, or an experienced professional looking for a career change, are you ready to support the next generation?
We are seeking proactive Cover Supervisors to work with our partner secondary schools in Braintree and the surrounding villages. This role is ideal for individuals who are resilient, adaptable, and capable of maintaining a productive learning environment during a teacher's absence. With schools ranging from large town-center academies to smaller rural settings, we can provide you with the variety and flexibility to suit your professional goals.
Your Responsibilities
- Classroom Leadership: Manage classes of up to 30 students across KS3 and KS4, delivering pre-planned work left by the regular subject teacher.
- Behaviour Management: Ensure a focused and respectful atmosphere by implementing school-specific behaviour policies with confidence and consistency.
- Student Support: Assist students with their queries, clarifying instructions and encouraging them to stay engaged with their learning tasks.
- Versatile Coverage: Oversee a diverse range of subjects throughout the school day-from English and Maths to Art and PE.
- Professional Feedback: Take accurate registers and provide constructive handover notes for the returning teacher, highlighting student progress or any specific issues.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Confidence: The ability to command a room with a professional and approachable demeanour.
- Adaptability: The resilience to walk into new settings and build immediate rapport with students and staff members.
- Communication: Excellent verbal skills to deliver instructions clearly and manage classroom dynamics effectively.
- Transferable Skills: Experience working with groups of young people (e.g., through coaching, youth work, tutoring, or military/emergency service backgrounds) is highly valued.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
