Southend
Are you a confident, adaptable individual with the presence to lead a classroom in one of Essex's most vibrant coastal communities?
Do you have the communication skills to manage secondary students and the flexibility to support various subjects?
Whether you are a graduate looking for a foot in the door of education, a former police or military officer, or an experienced sports coach, are you ready to take the lead in Southend's secondary schools?
We are seeking proactive and resilient Cover Supervisors to support our partner secondary schools and academies throughout Southend-on-Sea. This role is perfect for those who enjoy variety and want to gain classroom experience without the workload of planning or marking. You will be the face of the classroom during a teacher's absence, ensuring that students remain safe, on-task, and productive.
Your Responsibilities
- Classroom Management: Lead classes of up to 30 students across KS3 and KS4, delivering pre-set work provided by the school.
- Positive Climate: Maintain a focused and respectful learning environment by implementing school behaviour policies with confidence and consistency.
- Instructional Support: Guide students through their assigned tasks, offering clarity on learning objectives and encouraging academic progress.
- Versatile Delivery: Be prepared to oversee a range of subjects-from English and Maths to Art and PE-adapting your approach to meet the needs of the class.
- Feedback Loop: Take accurate registers and provide constructive handover notes for the returning teacher, highlighting student achievements or behavioral concerns.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Confidence & Authority: The ability to command a room with a professional, approachable, and firm presence.
- Adaptability: A "can-do" attitude and the resilience to work in a variety of school settings across Southend, Westcliff, and Leigh-on-Sea.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal skills to deliver instructions clearly and build immediate rapport with students and staff.
- Transferable Experience: Prior experience with young people (e.g., tutoring, youth work, sports coaching, or university placements) is highly beneficial.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
