Design Manager (Water Infrastructure)
Location: Kingston upon Thames (50% On-Site / 50% Remote)
Contract Rate: £500 - £550 per day (LTD / Outside IR35)
Duration: 6 - 12 Months

Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to oversee design delivery for a major Sewage Treatment Works (STW/WwTW) upgrade project based in Kingston upon Thames.
This contract offers a 50/50 hybrid working model (split evenly between on-site presence in Kingston and remote work). You will act as the key technical interface between external water infrastructure, MEICA, and process design consultants, client stakeholders, and site operations teams-ensuring design packages are delivered on schedule, fully compliant, and optimized for safe constructability on an active sewage treatment facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Package Management: Manage multi-disciplinary design deliverables (water infrastructure packages, reinforced concrete structures, deep drainage, MEICA, and process plant integration) across all project stages.
- Buildability & Value Engineering: Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, and models to resolve buildability issues early, driving value engineering solutions suited to active wastewater treatment environments.
- Progress & Deliverable Management: Drive the Design Deliverable Schedule (DDS) to align with site construction milestones, tracking and resolving Technical Queries (TQs) and RFIs.
- Regulatory Compliance & Approvals: Ensure design submissions comply with water authority specifications, WIMES standards, environmental regulations, and CDM 2015.
- On-Site Technical Support: Spend ~50% of your time on-site in Kingston, interfacing directly with Project Managers, Site Engineers, and operations teams to resolve live design interface challenges.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Water Sector Experience: Proven track record as a Design Manager or Design Coordinator delivering water infrastructure or sewage treatment projects (STW, WwTW, or AMP frameworks) in the UK.
- Technical Breadth: Strong working knowledge of wastewater process assets, water infrastructure networks, pipework networks, and MEICA design integration.
- Qualifications: Degree or HND/HNC in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications: Valid CSCS Card and EUSR National Water Hygiene Card (or willingness to obtain).
- Working Model: Ability to manage a 50% on-site presence in Kingston alongside 50% remote/home working.
