We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Development Research Test Technician to join a collaborative 35-member engineering team at a world-class Research and Development facility in Peterborough.
In this role, you will work directly with components and test rigs in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment. You will support engineers by setting up, operating, and testing cutting-edge engine components, while capturing critical performance and durability data.
What You Will Do
Hands-on Assembly & Testing: Use hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment to assemble, install, and modify test components on rigs.
Data Capture & Monitoring: Operate specialized test equipment to monitor performance, recording evaluation results using software, curves, charts, and tables.
Technical Investigations: Assist the engineering team in conducting technical investigations for future product developments.
Lab Standards: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace in accordance with 5S and Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) guidelines.
Collaborate: Work closely within a supportive team environment of engineers and fellow technicians to meet project deadlines.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
Education: Level 3 education (e.g., NVQ Level 3, BTEC, City & Guilds) in Engineering, Motor Mechanics, or a completed apprenticeship/equivalent experience.
Core Technical Skills:
Strong hands-on experience using hand and power tools.
Experience with soldering electronic components.
Strong understanding of electronic compounds/instrumentation.
Soft Skills: A self-starter attitude with the ability to take initiative on tasks, work collaboratively in a lab environment, and follow strict health and safety procedures.
PPE: Candidates must provide their own safety boots initially (safety glasses will be provided on-site).
Highly Desirable Skills (Not Essential, but a Plus)
Previous experience on a garage shop floor, test house, or similar engineering environment.
Experience with engine component testing or working in a fuel injection department.
Experience laying strain gauges, setting up instrumentation, and utilizing basic data capture software.
Knowledge of ultrasonic bolt monitoring equipment or slip torque testing.
