Job title: Assessment Support
Contract length: 12 weeks
Pay rate: £12.90 per hour @ 37 hours per week
Location: Birmingham, B4 7BD (hybrid working, expectation to be on site during exams)
Role Overview
The Assessment Support Assistant will play a key role in supporting the preparation, delivery, and administration of formal assessments and examinations. The role involves setting up digital exams, uploading exam content, providing administrative support, and acting as an exam invigilator to ensure that assessments are delivered in line with University regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to maintain a calm, professional presence in a high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Assessment Support
- Set up assessments within the online exam platform, ensuring accuracy and timely preparation.
- Upload exam papers and supporting materials in the correct formats and following secure procedures.
- Liaise with academic and professional services staff to obtain the necessary documents and confirm exam requirements.
- Perform pre-exam checks to ensure digital systems, access permissions, and exam content are functioning as expected.
Exam Invigilation
- Support the running of on-site exams by ensuring exam rooms are prepared in line with University standards.
- Check student identification and assist in seating arrangements.
- Deliver clear instructions at the start of examinations.
- Monitor students throughout the exam to maintain integrity, prevent misconduct, and provide assistance where appropriate.
- Accurately record incidents, timekeeping, and attendance.
- Collect and secure exam materials at the end of sessions.
General Administrative Duties
- Respond to queries from staff and students relating to assessment processes.
- Maintain accurate digital and paper records in line with assessment policies.
- Support the coordination of exam timetables, room bookings, and logistical arrangements.
- Assist in producing documentation, reports, and post-exam summaries as required.
- Contribute to a smooth and professional student experience during assessment periods.
Skills and experience required
- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work calmly and professionally during high-pressure or time-sensitive periods.
- Confident communicator with the ability to give clear instructions.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently.
- Ability to follow strict procedures and maintain confidentiality.
- Comfortable using digital platforms, Microsoft Office, and basic data-entry systems.
- Previous experience as an exam invigilator or in an assessment/examinations office.
- Experience working within a University or educational environment.
- Knowledge of academic regulations, assessment processes, or data-protection requirements.
- Experience using digital assessment or learning platforms.
- Customer service experience, particularly handling queries from students.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing schedules or last-minute exam needs.
