We are seeking a compassionate, flexible, and engaging Bilingual Specialist Support Tutor or Hungarian-Speaking Educational Translator to provide bespoke 1:1 home-based provision for a Year 2 child with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
The child has complex needs, is non-verbal, and has comprehension levels significantly below age-related expectations. Traditional academic tutoring will not apply here; the focus is entirely on engagement, interaction, sensory exploration, and building a trusted routine.
Because the family speaks Hungarian and the mother has very limited English, a fluent or proficient Hungarian speaker is essential to bridge communication, build trust, and ensure the family is fully included in the sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Child-Centred Engagement: Deliver highly personalised, play-based, and sensory-driven activities focused on interaction, stimulation, and comfort rather than traditional academic benchmarks.
- Family Communication: Act as a clear communication bridge between the provision and the mother during sessions, ensuring she understands activities, progress, and approaches used.
- Flexibility & Patience: Adapt every session in real-time to match the child's daily capacity, focus, and sensory needs.
- Collaborative Support: Liaise with the supporting school and professionals
Requirements & Skills
- Language Abilities: Fluency or high-level conversational Hungarian (essential to communicate effectively with mum) and strong English.
- Special Educational Needs (SEN) Experience: Prior experience working with children with complex needs, non-verbal communication, or severe learning difficulties.
- Approach: Strong understanding of sensory-based, play-led learning and nurture-based approaches.
- Reliability & Empathy: A warm, patient, and highly adaptive individual who can support a child returning to provision after extended periods out of school.
- Vetting: Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one prior to start).
Working Hours & Location
- Location: Home-based delivery in Central Walsall.
