We are working on an exciting new opportunity with Barnsley Council, who are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Independent Reviewing Officer / Conference Chair to join their Children's Services team. This full-time, locum position offers a competitive hourly rate of £40.
Summary of Job
The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in the local authority's commitment to improving outcomes for looked after children. You will be responsible for chairing a range of statutory meetings, providing quality assurance, and acting as a corporate parent, safeguarding the rights of children and young people. The role demands an influential social work professional with a passion for upholding the rights of children and a commitment to ensuring their voices are heard and their care plans are robust and effective.
Duties:
Chair statutory looked after children reviews and conferences, ensuring meetings are conducted in a child-friendly manner.
Provide independent oversight and critical challenge to care plans and professional practice, ensuring they are in the best interests of the child.
Advocate on behalf of looked after children and young people, ensuring their wishes and feelings are given full consideration.
Monitor the implementation of care plans and intervene to prevent any "drift" or delay in achieving permanence.
Conduct face-to-face visits with children and young people on your caseload to ensure their wellbeing and the progress of their plans.
Collaborate with multi-agency partners to promote a cohesive and effective approach to care planning.
Maintain an expert working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Planning Regulations and the IRO Handbook.
