Randstad is looking for reliable and committed individuals to work with students in Queen's University Belfast to provide support for students living with disabilities.
The Practical Assistant provides essential, non-medical, hands-on support to undergraduate and postgraduate students with disabilities, health conditions, or mobility difficulties. The primary goal of this position is to remove physical barriers, ensuring that the student can fully access their academic environment, facilities, and curriculum. This role focuses strictly on executing practical, physical tasks under the student's direct instruction. It does not involve academic tuition, personal care, or acting in a tutor or counsellor capacity. Pay Rate: £13.00 per hourContract - PAYE - 15 June to 3 July8:30 - 5:00 Key Responsibilities:- Mobility & Campus Navigation: Assisting the student in moving between lectures, seminars, libraries, and other campus facilities safely and punctually.
- Practical Assistance in Classes: Providing physical support within academic setting's as opening heavy doors, adjusting seating, or manipulating materials as directed by the student.
- Laboratory/Studio Support: Assisting with the physical setup of laboratory or studio equipment under strict guidance from the student and academic staff, while ensuring full compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Library & Study Assistance: Helping the student locate, retrieve, and carry books, journals, or study materials within university libraries.
- Organisation of Materials: Assisting with the management of the student's physical learning environment, including packing/unpacking bags and setting up laptops or specialised equipment.
- Punctuality & Reliability: Exceptional time-management skills are essential, as students rely on consistency to attend their scheduled classes.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication abilities with the capacity to interact professionally and being empathetic with students, university staff, and Randstad coordinators.
- Boundaries & Professionalism: A clear understanding of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality (GDPR compliance), and promoting independent learning.
- Adaptability: The ability to respond calmly and practically to changing schedules, campus environments, or specific student needs.
- Disability Awareness: Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or a strong willingness to learn about accessibility requirements in a Higher Education setting.
