We are seeking a Qualified Year 2 Primary Teacher (QTS mandatory) to join an outstanding partner Primary School nestled in the historic market town of Hitchin. This full-time, long-term contract runs for the full duration of the next academic year, starting in September 2026 and running through to July 2027. As the full-time class teacher for a bright Year 2 cohort, you will play a central role in building independent reading habits, core arithmetic confidence, and creative writing stamina within a highly collaborative school community.
Your Responsibilities
- Inspiring Lesson Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver creative lessons that align with the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum, adapting your style to meet the diverse learning profiles within your Year 2 classroom.
- Phonics & Early Literacy: Continue to embed systematic synthetic phonics and guided reading strategies to expand vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and encourage a love for books.
- Progress Assessment & Tracking: Utilise formative and summative assessments to monitor pupil milestones in reading, writing, and maths, providing targeted catch-up or stretch support.
- Inclusive Classroom Leadership: Manage and deploy your classroom Teaching Assistants effectively, ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEND) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) receive tailored, integrated guidance.
- Positive Environment: Foster a calm, stimulating, and inclusive classroom culture rooted in positive reinforcement, where every child feels safe and motivated to learn.
- Parental Partnership: Maintain open, supportive communication with parents and carers regarding student progress, and participate actively in staff meetings and whole-school events.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. A proven track record of teaching primary education within a UK school setting. (Experienced Key Stage 1 generalists and Early Career Teachers are welcome).
- Deep KS1 Framework Knowledge: A strong understanding of early childhood pedagogy, reading screening frameworks, and effective primary numeracy strategies.
- Exceptional Classroom Management: The ability to establish clear routines, structure, and a warm, encouraging environment from day one.
- Commitment to the Full Academic Year: The professional reliability to commit to a full-time, 5-day-a-week schedule from September 2026 straight through to the end of the academic year in July 2027.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
