Letchworth Garden City
Are you an empathetic, proactive individual passionate about supporting children's learning and emotional development after the half-term break?
Can you work effectively alongside class teachers to deliver focused interventions, manage small groups, and maintain an inclusive environment?
Are you looking to secure a full-time, long-term Teaching Assistant role starting after the holidays, or flexible day-to-day supply support opportunities across primary schools in Letchworth Garden City?
Randstad is currently recruiting a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term contract starting after the half-term break at a welcoming partner Primary School in Letchworth Garden City. Alongside this ongoing placement, we are actively onboarding adaptable teaching assistants for flexible day-to-day supply cover across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Whether you are seeking the stability of an assigned classroom or the freedom of flexible daily bookings, this school offers a rich learning environment focused on pupil attainment and well-being.
Your Responsibilities
- Targeted Learning Support: Assist the class teacher by leading small-group interventions in literacy, phonics, and numeracy tailored to pupil needs (or stepping in dynamically across classrooms on supply).
- 1:1 & SEND Assistance: Provide dedicated, patient support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or English as an Additional Language (EAL), adapting tasks to suit their learning styles.
- Classroom Resource Preparation: Help organise learning materials, set up interactive activities, and maintain a tidy, engaging, and safe classroom environment.
- Positive Behaviour Management: Model and reinforce whole-school positive behaviour strategies during classroom lessons, hall transitions, and playground breaks.
- Progress Observation & Feedback: Observe pupil engagement, note milestones or learning difficulties, and provide regular, actionable feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
- Team Handover & Communication: Work collaboratively with teaching staff across the school day, or provide clear handover notes to permanent staff after completing supply shifts.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Experience or Qualifications: Prior experience working with primary-aged children (in mainstream schools, SEND provisions, or childcare settings) or a relevant Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- Key Skills: Good numeracy and literacy skills, clear communication, and an understanding of foundational phonics and maths concepts.
- Professional Resilience & Adaptability: A calm, compassionate, and grounded approach to guiding young children, whether settled into an ongoing room assignment or supporting various year groups on daily supply.
- Collaborative Ethos: A genuine commitment to working seamlessly alongside teachers and support staff to prioritise student welfare and progress.
- Vetting Requirements: Holds an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or readiness to complete a new application via Randstad).
