We are looking for a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant for a long-term role commencing September 2026 at an established primary school in Stevenage. Assisting pupils across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2, this position is ideal for someone passionate about building pupil confidence, facilitating small group learning, and maintaining a positive classroom environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Classroom Assistance: Collaborate with class teachers to prepare learning materials, arrange activities, and ensure a structured, safe educational environment.
- Small Group Interventions: Guide small group activities focused on early reading, literacy exercises, and core math skills.
- 1:1 Pupil Mentoring: Provide targeted individual assistance to children needing extra academic support or those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
- Behaviour Support: Implement positive behaviour strategies to keep pupils calm, focused, and motivated throughout the day.
- Display & Resource Prep: Help construct interactive display boards and set up practical resources for daily lessons.
- Safeguarding & Welfare: Ensure student safety across classroom sessions, assembly times, and outdoor break periods.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Background working alongside children in primary schools, nurseries, or community youth settings (a Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification is desirable).
- Core Strengths: Strong verbal communication, flexibility, patience, and a solid grasp of primary reading, writing, and math fundamentals.
- Team Player: A proactive, encouraging approach focused on working seamlessly alongside teaching staff.
- Vetting Checks: An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or readiness to process a new application via Randstad).
