Who are you?
- An experienced professional with a background in horticulture, grounds maintenance, street cleansing, or other Public Realm Improvement activities.
- A highly organized individual who can work on their own initiative and with minimum supervision.
- Detail-oriented with a clear understanding of health and safety practices in respect of Public Realm services.
- An excellent communicator who can liaise with the public, partners, stakeholders, and other staff in a positive way.
- Experienced in using hand tools, light power tools, plant, and equipment needed for Public Realm tasks.
- Essential: Qualified to City and Guilds Phase 2 in a related horticultural/grounds maintenance discipline or equivalent, or an ability to demonstrate competence through experience.
- Essential: Hold a valid clean UK driving licence.
- Essential: Appropriate certification in NPTC pesticide application, Traffic management certification (to facilitate Chapter 8 installation), and Chainsaw operation, or a willingness to undertake the necessary training to obtain these once in post.
What will you be doing?
- Carrying out a range of tasks within the Public Realm Improvement Programme, including graffiti removal, vegetation management, horticulture, and gardening.
- Being responsible for the safekeeping and proper operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment, and reporting any damage or defects.
- Monitoring contractors engaged by the Service to undertake specialist work when required.
- Ensuring all appropriate health and safety measures and precautions are taken in accordance with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Applying pesticides as required and supporting environmental or community initiatives by the Council or its partners.
- Working outside normal hours and weekends when necessary to satisfy the needs of the service.
