About the Role
As a Residential Child Care Worker, you'll be an integral part of shaping and delivering our residential home's Statement of Purpose. You will be responsible for the health, well-being, and safety of our children, building strong, nurturing relationships, and acting as an advocate for them as they journey through care and into independence.
Your daily duties will include:
Holistic Support: Helping young people with their personal hygiene, nutrition, and medication, while also encouraging their participation in leisure and meaningful activities.
Building Trust: Taking the time to understand each child's unique background and experiences, and building positive professional relationships with them, their families, and other professionals.
Maintaining a Safe Environment: Ensuring our homes are secure, clean, and well-presented. This includes undertaking domestic chores and essential health and safety checks.
Team Collaboration: Working closely with managers and colleagues, sharing responsibilities, and contributing to a supportive team environment.
Professional Development: Attending team meetings, supervisions, and appraisals to continuously grow your skills and knowledge.
Working with Us
This is a full-time, 37-hour-per-week role with a flexible shift pattern that includes day shifts, late shifts, and overnight "sleeps." You'll have two days off per week, with a guaranteed weekend off every other week.
We offer a competitive package that includes:
A starting salary of BG8 spinal column 12 £28,163 and will progress yearly one column until SPC16 £30,060
Staff can earn up to £3000 extra on sleeps
Entitlement to WAP category 2 with £5.26 extra for every extra hour completed on top of the hourly rate
A generous 20% employer contribution to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
- 25 days of annual leave, rising to 30 days after five years of service, plus all bank and public holidays.
Who We're Looking For
You must have:
Experience working with children in a paid or voluntary capacity, especially those who exhibit challenging behaviours.
A relevant qualification (NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children & Young People, or Health and Social Care, or a Level 3 Diploma for Children & Young People's Workforce) or a willingness to complete one.
The ability to work under pressure, calmly handle challenging situations, and write clear, accurate reports.
A working knowledge of Microsoft 365 or similar applications.
The capacity for independent travel and driving duties is desirable.
