Responsible Individual - Ofsted Good Children's Home, Birmingham
Do you have experience working as a Responsible Individual within children's homes? Are you looking for your next challenge?
Our client is looking for someone to join their team as the Ofsted registered Responsible Individual for one of our client's therapeutic children's homes, to be legally responsible in accordance with relevant legislation and act on behalf of the organisation to ensure the homes meet the relevant requirements as set out in the legislation.
The Role:
To provide effective leadership and ensure there is effective management of Ofsted registered homes for children and young people.
To ensure a high standard of consistent care and service in accordance with legislation, central government guidance, regulations and standards, and the policies and procedures of our client.
To understand the need and relevance of professional curiosity and professional boundaries and what this looks like in a children's home environment.
Main Responsibilities & Key Result Areas:
- Be responsible for reporting regularly on the residential homes to ensure that they fulfil the Statement of Purpose, and function and are run in accordance with statute policies, guidelines and instructions.
- Ensure compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 (including the quality standards) and Regulation 44 inspections.
- Ensure the children's home's manager is fully prepared and ready for regular Ofsted inspections.
- To provide regular formal and informal supervision and management of the manager, encouraging professional development, completing and identifying training and staff development needs to ensure objectives are met.
- To provide effective leadership, management support and guidance to the registered managers in the development of the children's homes.
- Ensure young people in the children's homes are effectively safeguarded.
- Promote a high standard of professional practice through personal example. Encourage appropriate professional training & development by managing a comprehensive programme of performance management. Formulate specific learning and development plans for each registered manager.
- Ensure that electronic administration systems are current and appropriate, that recorded information is accurate, and that timely data is provided by registered managers.
- Promote and maintain a healthy and safe environment for all residential staff.
- Assist in appointing staff-ensuring the proper application of recruitment and selection procedures. Manage and oversee the induction, discipline, capability and grievance procedures.
- Contribute to, and/or participate in projects and initiatives associated with the functions of both their own area of service delivery, and others as required.
- Assist the registered managers to manage and maintain the home's vehicle according to policies and procedures.
- To ensure that young people's needs are met through a strong emphasis on communication and participation.
- To participate in meetings and training events as required by line managers and directors.
Personal Specification: Responsible Individual:
- Must have managerial experience of children's homes (Essential).
- Experience of effectively managing, engaging with and motivating staff
- Be an inspiring leader who is solution focused.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships and networks with professionals, organisations and agencies.
- Represent the organisation in a professional manner.
- Ability to think strategically and prioritise.
- Excellent communication skills that can be tailored appropriately to the audience.
- Ability to take responsibility for setting own work plan, and manage own time efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to reflect constructively and critically on own practice and support others to do the same.
- Computer literacy.
Desirable:
- Experience managing EBD and therapeutic parenting Homes.
- Experience of developing and managing projects.
- Experience of individual and group supervision approaches.
