About the Role:
As a School Caretaker, you will be a key member of the school's site team, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, security, and cleanliness of the school buildings and grounds. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach, with a strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Security: Responsible for the opening and locking of school buildings and gates. Acting as a key holder and responding to out-of-hours emergencies as needed.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Performing minor repairs and general DIY tasks (e.g., painting, decorating, basic plumbing or carpentry). Identifying and reporting any major repair work that requires external contractors.
- Health & Safety: Conducting regular health and safety checks to ensure a safe environment for everyone on site. This includes maintaining fire alarms, emergency exits, and conducting risk assessments.
- Grounds Maintenance: Keeping the school grounds tidy and safe, including litter collection, sweeping pathways, and clearing snow or ice in winter.
- Operational Support: Assisting with deliveries, setting up rooms for events, and moving furniture and equipment.
- Cleanliness: Maintaining cleanliness in designated areas and overseeing the work of contract cleaning staff.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a caretaking, site management, or maintenance role is highly desirable.
- Strong practical and DIY skills are essential.
- A good understanding of health and safety procedures and regulations.
- The ability to work independently, use your own initiative, and manage your workload effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, students, and contractors.
- A reliable and flexible approach to work, with the ability to work split shifts or outside of regular hours if required.
- A full UK Driving Licence may be an advantage.
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
