The Role :
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a proactive and committed Qualified Teacher of Science to join a highly-regarded mainstream Secondary School based in the beautiful Saffron Walden area. This role is essential to the continued success of the department, which consistently achieves strong results in all sciences at both GCSE and A-Level.
You will be responsible for teaching Science across Key Stage 3, and your specialism (or general science) at Key Stage 4 and potentially Key Stage 5. Your daily efforts will directly contribute to fostering a stable, inclusive, and academically enriching learning experience for all pupils, encouraging their curiosity about the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, practical-based lessons that meet the diverse needs of all pupils and align with the National Curriculum.
- Instill a genuine love for scientific inquiry, promoting analytical thinking, experimental skills, and data analysis.
- Rigorously assess, record, and report on pupils' progress, providing constructive, subject-specific feedback to support their continuous improvement.
- Collaborate effectively with department colleagues and technicians to maintain a safe, stimulating, and well-managed laboratory environment.
- Manage a dynamic classroom environment, maintaining excellent behaviour and upholding the high standards and ethos of the school.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a relevant Science subject (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) are essential.
- Proven experience teaching Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with Key Stage 5 experience being highly desirable).
- A naturally enthusiastic and practical teaching style, with the ability to manage and motivate large classes of students during experiments.
- Excellent subject knowledge, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to professional development.
- The ability to quickly establish strong, professional, and trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and staff.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
