We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant Secondary School in Bermondsey. Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Targeted Academic Support: Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions in core subjects like English, Maths, and Science to help close attainment gaps.
- Inclusion Advocacy: Support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Autism, ADHD, or Dyslexia, ensuring their specific learning plans are implemented.
- Social & Emotional Mentoring: Act as a positive role model, helping students navigate the social challenges of secondary school and building their emotional resilience.
- Classroom Collaboration: Work closely with the class teacher to manage classroom transitions, prepare resources, and ensure a focused learning environment.
- Progress Monitoring: Observe and record student progress, providing valuable feedback to the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and parents.
- Exam Access Support: Assist students during internal and external examinations as a reader, scribe, or prompt to ensure they can showcase their true potential.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Educational Background: A strong level of literacy and numeracy (Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths). A degree is highly desirable.
- Interpersonal Skill: The ability to build professional rapport with teenagers, showing a balance of firm boundaries and genuine empathy.
- Resilience: A calm and patient demeanor, especially when supporting students who may find the classroom environment challenging.
- Adaptability: The willingness to move between different subject areas and support different year groups throughout the school day.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
