Reporting to the Sub Agent or Project Manager, you will oversee daily site operations, engineering compliance, and subcontractor management across major earthworks and highways work packages. You will bridge the gap between high-level project planning and setting-out engineers to ensure safely delivered, high-quality works on schedule. Your day-to-day will involve:
- Package Management & Engineering Control: Overseeing setting-out accuracy and technical control across bulk cut/fill operations, drainage systems, access roads, and carriageway construction.
- Progress Tracking & Earthworks Monitoring: Tracking volumetric surveys and material movements, monitoring outputs against 3-to-4 week lookahead schedules, and optimizing plant/resource allocation on site.
- Technical QA & Engineering Management: Managing the ITP process, reviewing as-built data, coordinating material approvals, writing and issuing technical queries (TQs), and ensuring seamless design integration.
- Subcontractor & Team Leadership: Managing daily subcontractor activities, coordinating Site Engineers and setting-out staff, and maintaining comprehensive daily site diaries and shift records.
- HSEQ & Method Statements: Producing and updating RAMS, leading site safety briefings/tool box talks, and strictly enforcing health, safety, environmental, and ecological constraints on site.
Essential Requirements
- Highways & Earthworks Track Record: Proven track record as a Section Engineer (or senior Site Engineer ready to step up) on major civil engineering projects, specifically heavy earthworks, bulk excavation, and highways infrastructure.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of survey techniques, modern GPS, robotic equipment, and machine control systems (e.g., Leica, Topcon, Trimble).
- Qualifications: Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent construction management qualification).
- Site Credentials: Valid CSCS card (gold or black preferred) and SMSTS (or SSSTS).
- Location & Mobility: Based in or commutable to the Swindon region with a full UK driving licence.
